Terms of use of the Logbook Registry

Placeholder · pending review by counsel

Two audiences, one registry: section A covers anyone using this website's free vehicle check, dealer list and dispute form. Section B covers member organisations — insurers, lenders, motor dealers, customs brokers, garages and law-enforcement users — and their staff ("Members"), who also agree to these terms by signing in to the member portal.

A. Using the public site

1. What the free check is — and is not

The public report is the public slice of a shared registry of vehicle history events recorded by members and third-party data sources. It is informational: its contents are supplied by others and may be incomplete, and the absence of a record proves nothing. Logbook is not a guarantee of a vehicle's condition, title or history and does not replace a physical inspection by a qualified person. Every report carries this disclaimer, a report number and a verification hash.

2. Paid report access

The free check shows a summary of what the registry holds; the full report is unlocked per vehicle by a paid purchase and remains accessible on your account for 30 days from purchase, reflecting the registry as it stands each time you view it. Access is personal to your account and is not transferable. During the proof of concept the checkout is a demonstration and no real payment is taken.

3. Fair use

The free check is for individual vehicle checks connected to a genuine purchase, sale or ownership interest. Automated querying, scraping, bulk extraction, resale of reports, or use of the site to build a competing dataset is prohibited; rate limits are applied per address and requests beyond them are refused.

4. Disputes

Anyone may dispute an entry they believe is wrong. While a dispute is open the entry remains on the report, flagged as disputed; if it is upheld the entry is retracted, and if the record stands the flag is removed. The outcome is sent to the email address given when raising the dispute. Knowingly raising false disputes is prohibited.

5. Verified Dealers

The Check a Dealer list confirms that a dealer has shown Logbook the identity evidence described on that page at the time of verification. It is not an endorsement of any dealer or sale, and verification can lapse or be withdrawn.

B. Member use of the registry

6. Recording events

Members record only events their organisation type is permitted to record, truthfully and from their own business records. Entries are append-only: a mistake is corrected by recording a correction, which supersedes the original while leaving it on file. Uploading data on behalf of another organisation, or fabricating events, is grounds for immediate suspension.

7. Looking things up

Every member lookup requires a stated purpose and is written to the audit trail before results are returned. Registry access is restricted to legitimate vehicle checks connected to a purchase, sale, policy, loan, import, inspection or investigation. Bulk extraction of registry data or resale of reports is prohibited.

8. Accounts and security

Sign-in credentials are personal and must not be shared. Organisations are responsible for removing access when staff leave. We may suspend access to protect the registry, its members or the public.

C. General

9. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Logbook and DORDLE Ltd are not liable for decisions made in reliance on registry content. The registry is provided as-is for the duration of the proof of concept.

10. Privacy

Personal data is handled as described in the privacy policy, under the Data Protection Act (2021 Revision).

11. Changes

These terms may change as the registry develops; the current version is always at this address. Continued use after a change is acceptance of it.
